My Good Friends Ted & Lisa Cooper
& H.M.S. Theseus

Ted and Lisa

Ted and Lisa Cooper - February 1999.

In June 1998 I started working at the Greenway Centre, Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, where I had the fortune to meet Ted Cooper and his smashing (and much younger) wife Lisa...

I believe Ted is in his 71st year but life has obviously been good to him........

Ted had the misfortune to be born in Yorkshire and raised in Oldham, Lancashire, from where he left home to join the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy just after the Second World War.

After qualifying as a Naval Air Mechanic, he went on to serve aboard amongst others; H.M.S. Theseus......

On leaving the Navy, Ted joined Skyways Airlines as an Engineer, where he seems to have been sent all over Europe and the rest of the World.........

He left the Airline in the sixties and moved to Newcastle-on-Tyne where, after a while he joined the Post Office and subsequently Lisa...

They eventually moved to Lisa's home country (God's Country) and settled in Edinburgh..

H.M.S. Theseus

Begun at the Fairfield Shipbuilders of the Clyde in 1942, 'Theseus' was launched in July 1944 and completed for service in January 1946.

Built as a Colossus Class Carrier, she had a displacement of 13,350 tons.

Though after Ted's time aboard her, 'Theseus' saw action off Korea in 1950 and later was converted to Helicopter Carrier where she saw service at the ill fated Suez Crisis......

Some of Ted's snaps..........

Sea Fury crashed into a Firefly.

Firefly precariously close to the edge!!

The Seafury slowly being pulled away.....

A Healthier looking Firefly....

'Theseus' making way......probably awaiting incoming aircraft..

If you know Ted Cooper or served aboard 'Theseus' at the same time and wish to get in touch with Ted, then please drop me a line and I'll pass it on to him...........
